lesson 13/12/11

In todays lesson i imported sound into flash and attached the sound to buttons.

However I had to convert the sound files to .wav format becuase flash only accepts this sound format.

This screenshot shows me converting the sound file from .wma to .wav.

This screenshot shows the sound file that has been successfuly converted to .wav from .wma.

lesson 09/12/11 project management

In todays lesson i have considered what improvments i could make to my meetings in order to make them more specific to the project. I will also include screenshots in my meetings to give the text more context and relevance to the project, whilst including more information about what i will disucss in my next meeting.

I also had the oppurtunity to evaluate a peers meeting and highlight what could be improved and compare with A grade exemplar work.

lesson 24/11/11

In this lesson, I worked on adjusting the size of the pages to make sure they fitted the screen, without the need for the user to scroll down the page.

This screenshot shows how the page doesnt fit the screen equally and the bottom section of the page requires the user to scroll down meaning a section of the page has been cut of from view.

This screenshot show how I have changed the page so that it fits the screen without the need for scrolling. Also the text isn't cut off the page aswell.

I have also changed the position of the navigation buttons on everypage so that they are closer together than before. Upon looking at the pages I thought it looked better to hsave the buttons closer together.

lesson 22/11/11

In todays lesson I created arrow buttons to go every page in flash. This will act as a secondary form of navigation for the user along with the conventional buttons at the top of the page. I firstly made the buttons in photoshop and imported them into flash.
This is the arrow i created on flash

I intend to create the same arrow in a different colour so that when the user hovers over the arrow it will change colour, this will improve usability.

Lesson 17/11/11

In todays lesson I linked some of my pages using the code

on (release) {
 gotoAndStop("Drill Homepage", 1);
}

I added text buttons to the Game Homepage which will eventually be linked to take the user to each game. I also changed the text colour on the drills homepage from blue to white. I will continue to change the text on every page in the following lesson.

Prototype one meeting progression

In response to the comments my client gave me i have decided to improve the homepage which was my prototype one.

In my prototype meeting minutes I suggested the improvement to 'Rewrite the text on the homepage including more what the system is in a succinct fashion'. I have since improved the text and have included more information on what the system's function is whilst keeping it succinct.

Below is a screenshot showing this improvement. This will be positioned at the bottom of the page and will inform the user about what the system will provide them.

Lesson 15/11/11

In todays lesson I added the reamining scenes in the guide and included the background and buttons to the scenes. In addition I added some text to the homepage to explain about the drills guide. I also changed the text from dynamic to static because some of the text was cut off the page.

On the homepage i have changed the text from dynamic to static text. This is becasue in dynamic setting the text was cut off the page. Changing it to static text has prevented the text this problem.

day off monday 14/11/11

Today I continued with my prototype system and I am designing the text on the drills main page that corresponds to the images of the different drills. I firstly tried to design the text in flash but I found that it was limited in making the text very clear and of a sleek design as it is going to have to be positioned over the images. Next I decided to try in photoshop and found it easier to make the text very clear, however when I imported the text into flash and inserted it onto the images the text covered too much of the image and looked clustered. In lesson I will continue to change this text so that it will be functional with the images on the drills main page.

lesson 10/11/11

In todays lesson I have continued with the Drills Homepage, including images which enlarge when the user hovers over them. This way the user knows what picture they are selecting, and as i will link these images to the golf drill they represent it is important that the user knows what the pictures are. I have also created a new scene for the drill page and next lesson will link this to the corresponding picture.

lesson 08/11/11

In this lesson I have moved on to prototype 2, which will include the homepage, drills main page and the game.

This is an image of the drills icons before the user has hovered over a specific drill

This image shows how one icon has enlarged as the user hovers over the image

I have created new buttons on the drills main page, and have created usability features such as the button increases in size when you hoover over it. This way the user knows when they are selecting a certain button. I have also made sure that through the button creation the button stays in the same postion and the same size apart from the over section. This way the button will not move position when viewed.

Screenshot- Working in Flash

This screenshot shows how i have used x and y co-ordinates to position my flash buttons in the correct order. I have also used the Width and Height numbers to make the buttons all the same size, so that there are no inconsitentcies.

lesson 03/11/11

In todays lesson I continued on the homepage of my system adding an animation to the homepage. I created a golfer in photoshop and then drew around it to delete the background. This left only the golfer and not the background, so I could then import it into flash. I then created an animated golf ball, which moves when the golfer putts. This will be the animation on the homepage.

Functional specification meeting

I have recieved feedback from meeting and have
  • included the rest of the inital designs in the functional specification that my client asked for. This made it clearer for the client to picture what the system will look like.
  • changed the information about the use of the system, only including the memebers of the golf club and not the teaching proffessional becuase of client restrictions.

20/10/11 Lesson

In this lesson I have continued to work on my project in flash.

This lesson I made changes to my buttons, moving them to different positions on the stage because of recommendations from fellow students suggesting it would look better. In addition i have altered the hit on the buttons to make sure that you can only select the button when you are clicking on the button.

This screenshot shows the change i have made regarding the hit section of the button. I have now only made the hit the size of the button, so that the button is only active when the user hovers over it and not arround it. The reason for the change was through a peers observation, and they could select a button even when they werent hovering over it.

Previously I you could selct the button even when you werent hoovering on the button. I also changed the colour when you hoover over the button as it didn't very clear, I therefore changed the colour to a darker and bolder colour.

18/10/11 Usability testing

BBC usability testing of the beat website
Performing a selction of task on the Beta website, i have some feedback regarding the usability of the website.

Find out news headlines- In the lower section of the beta homepage the most popular news headlines were displayed making it easy to find the breaking news.
Find out the weather for Southend- All I needed to do was to click on the weather icon in the top right hand corner and then enter the desired location you want the weather for. When entering a location in the search bar, it recognises what you are typing, this saves you having to type the whole location in.
Find out exchange rates-Wasn't clear from the onset as to where I could find the business or financial section from the beta homepage.

Feedback from my prototype designs

I recieved a range of feedback from Hollie regarding how easy it was to use.

Location the buttons on the homepage was an easy task and Holly was able to acheieve this and understand where the links took her in the system.

Next I asked Hollie to perform a range of tasks by asking her how I could improve the appearance of the video and make it more obvious to the user. Hollie suggested that I should use a play pause navigation arround the video to easily identify that this is a video showing a golf drill. I could also input a magnify icon on the images and video to show the user that this is what happens when you click on the image or video. This will make it much easier for the user to navigate arround my system and will make their experience much more productive.

13/10/11 Lesson

In this lesson I have:

Completed the buttons for my homepage. I had a problem with the hit on the button as I could still hit the button even though I was not on the button. I therefore had to change the button and make sure the hit was only on the button itself. In addition I placed the buttons into the background of the page.

Lesson 11/10/11

In todays lesson i altered my button designs in photoshop, creating new versions to make them interactive.
I also used X and Y values to make sure the position of my buttons were correct and in the right place. In addition i have used colour codes to match the certain backgrounds together so that the colours overlap. This is the code i used
#3266CC

lesson 06/10/11

Today i am creating the homepage prototype for my project. I have imported a template bacground into flash which will be on every page. I had difficulty with the sizing of the template and had to make alterations to make it fit the flash page. I also produced buttons in photoshop and have tyhen imported them in flash. However i do not like how they look and will change them in due course.

This is my background template for all the pages in the drills guide. I aim to keep the same background to maintain a consistent theme.

Lesson 04/10/11

In todays lesson i made adaptions to my photoshop designs which i have then put into flash. I found that the nvagtion section of the page wasn;t big enough of flsah so i have changed it in photoshop and aim to re import into flash.

A2 ICT Project

What is my Project?
I hope to develop an interactive golf drills guide to help support and improve players at my golf club.

What flash will be included in the project?

I aim to create a drag and drop game, to show users the key aspects of the drills i will include in the system. The user will have to correctly match the key points with the correct drill they apply to.
